Virgil Ellsworth Ritchie, 94, of Sardis, Ohio passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at Westwood Place, Woodsfield, Ohio. He was born at The Trail Run Community on October 12, 1929 a son of the late John Henry Ritchie and Margaret Ahrens Ritchie.
Virgil was a retired employee of the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio, a former Jackson Township Trustee in Monroe County, Ohio, a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Trail Run, Ohio, and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.
He enjoyed farming and was a former Cub Scout Master and a former Board member for the Boy Scouts in Antioch, Ohio. He was a former EMT with the Antioch Emergency Squad. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting and was an avid Ohio State football fan.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilford (Boots) and Ralph Ritchie.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years Doris Jean Leasure Ritchie, whom he married on April 25, 1954. One son David E. Ritchie of Trabuco Canyon, California and Trail Run, Ohio. One special nephew Jeff Ritchie, and his faithful dog Angus.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio from 11:00 A.M. until time of military and funeral services at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery near Sardis, Ohio.
